Junior Geotechnical Engineer

Our Dallas office is seeking for a Junior Geotechnical Engineer. This is an entry-level position and will initially be primarily field based until the suitable comfort and competence has been gained with our field operations, after which, the role will become split between field and office.

Initial Field Responsibilities
  • Provide construction inspection and quality control/assurance testing for various infrastructure and transportation projects;
  • Conduct field compaction testing of soils;
  • Carry out field concrete testing as per CCIL/CSA requirements;
  • Conduct pile construction monitoring for driven steel and cast-in-place concrete piles;
  • Liaise with project engineers and client’s site representatives; and,
  • Willing to travel to construction sites.
Subsequent Progressive Responsibilities
  • Project management of geotechnical/construction materials testing projects;
  • Conduct field drilling programs, construction monitoring or instrumentation programs relating to geotechnical and materials projects;
  • Prepare and write proposals, fee estimates, and technical reports as directed by the Engineering or Branch Manager;
  • Conduct and perform analytical calculations and run geotechnical software.
  • Coordinate and conduct forensic and field investigation programs;
  • Supervise the work of technologists and provide technical direction; and,
  • Promote and assist Cubic Inc in supporting the geotechnical practice, and managing client relationships, including business and new client development.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a related post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering;
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license is required; and,
  • Comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments;
  • Shift work is required depending on workload;
  • Ability to lift 50lbs to chest height;
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments and weather conditions, including local and remote construction sites;
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required; and,
  • Eligible for membership with APEGA.
Desirable Skills
  • This position would appeal to those who thrive in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to work independently and cooperate with a team;
  • Previous work experience in the field of construction materials testing;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing), and,
  • Strong safety awareness.
Additional Information
  • Criminal Record Check will be conducted; and,
  • Clean 3 Year Driver’s Abstract and an Insurance Claims Experience Letter are required.
